Methodology and limitations
How the score is calculated, what each stage means and what the assessment cannot tell you. We publish the method so you can check the result yourself.
Twelve questions, two in each of the six dimensions. Every answer has five levels — from 0 (absent) to 4 (established practice). A dimension's score is the sum of its two answers divided by 8, expressed from 0 to 100.
The overall score is a weighted sum of the dimensions: strategy 15%, infrastructure 15%, data 20%, governance 20%, talent and skills 15%, organisational readiness 15%. Data and governance weigh more because they most often stop AI projects — this is our expert judgement, not an external standard.
| Strategy | 15% |
|---|---|
| Infrastructure | 15% |
| Data | 20% |
| Governance | 20% |
| Talent and skills | 15% |
| Organisational readiness | 15% |
Some answers are flagged as blockers regardless of the overall score — for example unclear rules for personal data, very poor data quality or no access to technical expertise.
The four stages
- Exploration0–24 points
- AI is still an idea. First choose a business goal and one process, then sort out data and responsibilities.
- Foundation building25–49 points
- Some prerequisites exist, but key foundations are missing. Close the gaps before investing in development.
- Pilot ready50–74 points
- The foundations support a limited pilot with a clear task, tests and human approval.
- Scaling readiness75–100 points
- Strategy, data and governance support more than one use case — with shared rules and monitoring.
Limitations
- The result depends entirely on your answers; we do not inspect your systems or processes.
- It is not compared with other companies or industry figures — there is no external benchmark.
- The weights and thresholds are our expert judgement, not a scientifically validated standard.
- Twelve questions cannot cover everything — industry requirements, budget and timing are clarified in a conversation.
